Sammy

Summer Adventure On the Road 2011
                                                                    Sammy

I want to take lots of pictures to put in my blog so I thought I would take one of Sammy and learn to how to post it.  Here it is! Steinbeck traveled with Charley and we will be traveling with Sammy!

A new Laptop for our Trip

Summer Adventure On the Road 2011
We decided to buy a new laptop for our trip and learn to use it before we got on the road.  We looked around and found a Samsung RV511 that would not break the bank and fit the specs that we needed.  Our laptop, Sammy, seems to fit the bill.  It has a decent size Keyboard that is easy for typing on the move and the 15" screen is easy to see.  It is set up for moble wireless which we will need on the road.  We signed up with Verizon Wireless which is most prevelant througout the U.S.  The broadband uses cellular towers that Verizion has set up like a forest throughout the country.
Sammy also has a nifty camera that we can use with SKYPE to show you some interesting things along the way as well as have a chat waith us in our camping best!  I am planning on taking some pictures during the trip so I will need to learn to download them on my blog.  The first one will be of  Sammy as soon as I finish this entry.
So, one step at a time we are getting prepared for our Summer Adventure!

Setting up the Blog Page

Summer Adventure On the Road 2011

I hope I have enabled my cookies!  It will be a great event when everything comes together.  I can then bring up my blog page and add some points of wisdom in preparation for our adventure.  One good thing is that we plan to stay with in the boundaries of these United States so our medical insurance will be in effect if the need arises.  Just a thought!

Our Summer Plans

This summer we are planning to travel cross country starting in Florida traveling west to New Orleans then down to San Padre Island.  We plan to stay about a week there to do some windsurfing and biking.  We then will make our way northwest toward Las Vagas and up to Washington State to see our grand kids and their mom Lynda, and all the wonderful friends in Wenatchee.  With everyone in tow, we all plan to caravan to Hood River for two weeks of camping, windsurfing, and connecting with our Hood River friends.   From there we head back with the kids to Washington State and head up to British Columbia to explore a bit of Canada.  Then we drive southeast to Yellowstone and across to Chicago.  From there we plan to head to the east coast and back down to Florida.
In preparation for this trip we will need bike racks, Tully attachments for our windsurfers, a Tully case for equipment, and a false floor for our van.  This will enable us to have storage space for camping equipment and other toys such as golf clubs, tennis rackets etc.  We will also need a GPS system and a good computer so I can blog our trip. This month we are planning things out and next month we will start getting everything ready.  We have the map out and are setting up our initial itinerary, checking campgrounds, hotels, and National Parks.
We are excited to find new venues to explore and leaving an open ended spirit of adventure ahead.  For those of you interested, you can view this blog as we make our way throughout this great nation discovering new and interesting things around every corner!

Introduction- The Big Idea

This summer we are planning a big adventure.  We propose to drive cross country from Florida to Washington State to British Columbia to Yellowstone to cross Montana to go to Chicago and on to the East Coast then travel down the East coast back to Florida.  We plan to do this in our van staying at campgrounds or hotels using a sturdy tent, our car, or frequent- flyer miles for a hotel.  We will need to get a GPS system and a good computer to do research for our trip.  We are planning about three months and linking up our time to be with our grand children when we get up north.
We are planning to rig up our van by installing a false floor to enable us to use the space below as storage space for camping equipment and sports equipment such as golf and tennis.  We will need inflatable mattresses, sleeping bags, and other necessities.
